Sir,
The power situation in Jammu division had shown some signs of improvement during last one year, but it has started deteriorating with increase in temperature. The residents are now subjected to numerous power cuts day in and day out. The situation has worsened in small towns and villages, and this needs to be rectified at the earliest.
The power situation is not going to improve considerably unless Government accelerates reform process. Jammu and Kashmir is one of the States that has not witnessed rapid reforms in power sector. Power pilferage continues unabatedly despite e-metering of house-holds. Rich and influential continue to thrive on power thefts. The Government departments continue to lag behind in paying electricity bills to the PDD.
The PDD must embark on power reforms with a mission. Half hearted approach is not going to do any good to the power sector. There is also need at tap solar power. Solar panels must be made available to people on cheaper rates. There is tremendous scope for solar power in the State, particularly, in Ladakh and Jammu Divisions.
It is time that reforms are carried out in the power sector, or we may continue to suffer perenially.
Yours etc…
