Rich tributes paid to Shaheed Bhagat Amarnath

JAMMU, June 4: Under the aegis of All India Confederation of SC/ST/OBC Organisations, unit R S Pura, people gathered at Bishnah  and paid floral tributes to Shaheed Bhagat Amarnath ji, son of soil, who was born in 1928 at   Batote.
While addressing the gathering, RK Kalsotra State President of Confederation, who was the chief guest apprised that Shaheed Bhagat Sahib dedicated and devoted himself for social cause exclusively for downtrodden people of the State. Kalsotra further elaborated that during 1970 there was a great resentment among Dalit samaj for denial of reservation rights by unjust and hostile State Government, despite of implementation of reservation for SCs in Central services by the great efforts of Baba Sahib Dr B R Ambedkar. Shaheed Bhagat Amar Nath took very serious and comprehensive note of the malafide intention of the State Government and intensified his non stop agitation in the entire Jammu province by leading many processions, demonstrations, public meetings for the expeditious redressal of core issue of reservation and when his demand was not accepted he took a drastic and extreme step and sat on fast unto death on 21-05-1970 at Karan Park in front of civil secretariat and achieved martyrdoom on 1st June 1970 and became “Martyr of Reservation”.
Another guest of the honour of the function Ex MLA Prof Garu Ram Bhagat also paid tribute to Shaheed Amar Nath. He further lauded the efforts  of Confederation for organizing such programmes and extended his full support.
Other prominent persons who spoke included tehsil president of Confederation R S Pura Darshan Banmotra, State president Kabir Sudhar Sabha Behari Lal Bhagat,  Secy  Guru Ravi Dass Trust Dr D D Shivgotra, president Batwal Sabha Sat Pal Mandi, president Bazigher Sabha Mukthiar Kalia, president Masha Sabha Tilak Raj, social leader Rattan Bhagat, Retd Principal Jagdish Bhagat, Retd Div Manager Dr Surjeet Bhagat, Principal Roop Krishan,  Retd Accounts Officer Harbans Lal, Lect Anita Devi, Puran Chand and Adv Chaman Lal.
