AKHNOOR, June 5: In its endeavour to bring Akhnoor Town on the National Tourism Map, SDM Akhnoor, Sunaina Sharma under the aegis of District Administration, Jammu, in coordination with Tourism Department, Police Department, Flood Control and Irrigation Department and other wings of Administration conducted a trial run for river rafting from Ambaran to Jia Pota Ghatt in Akhnoor.
Trial run was successfully conducted by a Team of Tourism Department headed by its Joint Director Tourisim, Vishesh Pal Mahajan which comprised of Rajesh Raina, Amar Paul, Rakesh Koul, Prikshit Kumar and local entrepreneur Sanjay Singh Sambyal, President Jammu Adventure Sports Association, who will operate the rafting operations.
The team was supported by district Police team.
Speaking on the occasion SDM Akhnoor informed that this was an effort in promoting the historical town of Akhnoor, and adding to the beauty of this picturesque town which is loved for its historical background by the people of the entire nation. During the visit the team also made on spot assessment of activities to be started in the historical Akhnoor fort, which is amongst the rarest sites in the world to have remains of more than 5000 year of civilization. Strategy of developing the Buddhist site Ambaran was also discussed.
SSP Rural, Arun Gupta who was present on the occasion informed that he has given necessary instructions to all the concerned to take safety measures for rafting at Akhnoor.
