MoS Defence pays floral tribute to soldier martyred at LoC in Kashmir

SRINAGAR:  Minister of State (MoS) for Defence Subhash Bhamre today paid floral tributes to a soldier martyred during a counter infiltration operation in Naugam sector in the frontier district of Kupwara in north Kashmir.

Alert troops foiled three infiltration bids from Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) in north Kashmir since Wednesday, killing seven militants near the Line of Control (LoC).

The soldier, Rifleman Tara Bahadur Roka, was martyred and two others were injured in the exchange of fire during the counter infiltrator operation yesterday in which they took the life of three armed intruders.

Defence Ministry spokesperson Colonel Rajesh Kalia said the MoS Defence joined Army in paying a befitting tributes with full military honour to the martyred soldier.

Chinar Corps Commander Lt Gen JS Sandhu and all ranks also paid homage to the martyr in a solemn ceremony, which was also attended by officials from the other security agencies, including Director General of Police (DGP) Dr S P Vaid, at the headquarter of 15 Corps at Badami Bagh Cantonment here, he said.

Laying wreath on behalf of a proud nation, the Minister saluted the hero’s sacrifice and expressed his condolences to the bereaved family of the martyr, who is survived by his parents.

Col Kalia said born on January 1, 1994, the young braveheart from Dang, Nepal with barely two years of service was a very motivated soldier. He had impressed one and all with his vigour, courage and devotion to duty.

“The mortal remains of the martyr will be taken to Subathu in Himachal Pradesh for last rites with full military honours,” he added. (AGENCIES)
