Jammu: Minister of state for Transport, Youth Service and Sports (YSS) Sunil Sharma today said that the Yoga day would be celebrated in the state in a big way by mobilizing the people to participate in the scheduled events.
The Minister asked YSS officials to make advance arrangements for holding Yoga sessions with special focus on the involvement of the educational institutions. He asked them to coordinate with the education department for massive participation of students in the event which is being held across India and 158 countries across the world on June 21. He said Yoga has gained global popularity owing to its benefit in the prevailing busy lifestyle.
The Minister was speaking a meeting held to review the functioning of YSS department which was attended by the senior functionaries of the department including Director YSS Shiekh Fayaz Ahmed, Joint Director Madan Lal and district officers of Jammu division.
He asked the district officers to arrange the yoga sessions in all schools and start advance campaign to mobilize maximum participation of the people.
The Minister, while highlighting importance of sports, said that recent years have witnessed great participation of youth in different games and many of them have brought laurels for the state by recording excellent performance at national and International level. “Last year the state won 118 medals in different games , while 1800 sportsperson of the state participated in the state, national and international events. This spirit can be maintained by providing the potential sportsperson all facilities and guidance and YSS has a crucial role in this regard “he added.
The Minister also reviewed the development projects in sports sector and informed that the government is planning to create more sports infrastructure to promote games in the state.
