One arrested for sale of liquor, 700 kgs of lahan destroyed

SAMBA, June 14: Samba police today arrested one person for sale of illicit liquor and seized 18 pouches/nips of JK Excise from his possession.
Police said on the basis of an information got from a reliable source a team of Samba police led by SHO of the Police Station Samba under the supervision of  Dy SP HQ, Samba raided the shop of ShamLal S/o Bhuri Ram  R/o KheriMandi Tehsil & District Samba at Machi market here and recovered 18 pouches of J&K Excise from the shop which he had kept for sale.
The raid was the part of continuous drive against the menace of the drugs and illicit liquor launched by District Police on the directions of Senior Superintendent of Police Samba, Anil Magotra.
The shopkeeper was arrested on the spot. In this connection, a Case FIR No. 122/2017 U/S 50-A Excise Act stands registered at P/S Samba and investigation has been taken up.
Meanwhile, Excise Department team from Kathua has destroyed more than 700 kilograms of Lahan, a raw material for illicit liquor which is highly hazardous and injurious for health and which was recovered by the raiding team from State land in various areas of Kathua.
The raid was conducted on the directions of the Excise Commissioner, Mohd. Javed Khan and supervision of Deputy Excise Commissioner (Executive), Jammu Ghanshyam Singh,by the Excise team Kathua led by ETO Excise Range Kathua, Sandeep Gupta & Inspector Excise Arun Kumar along with Excise staff in the villages of Kangdyal,Sumwan & Dhabwal areas of Kathua district.
