JAMMU, June 28: Pakistan army today again resorted to heavy mortar shelling in Balakote, Mendhar and Nowshera sectors along the Line of Control (LoC) in twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri.
Reports said Pakistan army directly targeted civilian areas, apart from forward defence locations, at Sandot, Dabbi, Panjni, Chouhala, Trala and Basuni areas on LoC in Balakote and Mendhar sectors of Poonch district at 3.30 pm.

Indian side retaliated very effectively, leading to heavy exchanges of mortar shelling and firing with both automatic and semi-automatic weapons.
Several mortar shells fell close to houses of the people. There were reports of injuries to some cattle in mortar shelling in Balakote sector. At about 6 pm, shelling stopped in Balakote and Mendhar sectors, but intermittent exchange of firing continued till late tonight.
In Nowshera sector also, Pakistan army targeted Baba Khori, Gania and Kalal forward villages of Nowshera sector in Rajouri district from 2 pm to 5 pm.
In all three sectors, there were no casualties of Army or civilians. Also, no major damage was reported to the civilian property.
During the current month, there have been 21 ceasefire violations by the Pakistani Army in Poonch and Rajouri districts besides a cross-LoC attack and two infiltration bids in which 4 people including 3 jawans have been killed.
On June 26, the occasion of Eid-ul Fitr, the Pakistani Army had resorted to firing by small arms and automatic weapons and shelling of mortars along the LoC in Bhimbher Gali (BG) sector of Rajouri.
A day prior to that, the Pakistan troops had resorted to two ceasefire violations in Nowshera sector of Rajouri district in which one jawan was injured.
