MENDHAR, July 3: People held strong protest demonstration and blocked Mendhar-Jammu road for about two hours after a 12-year-old boy was knocked to death by a car at Bhata Durian in Mendhar Sub Division of Poonch district today.
Reports said that incident took place when boy, Musharaf Sarfraz, along with his mother had come to his Nanihal (Nana-Nani’s house. They were leaving to their village at Sangiot). The boy with his mother was walking along the road at Bhata Durian when a Maruti- Baleno Car hit the boy and the car driver sped away from the spot. The people of the area flashed message to police. The police intercepted the car at Kallar but driver managed to flee leaving behind the car. The police seized this car and started search for the driver..
Later, it was discovered that car bearing No. JK02BQ/ 9793 belonged to JE, who works in Parnai Power Project , Daraba in Surankote. The car driver was later identified as Anil Kumar, son of Ram saran from Akhnoor.
The boy was rushed to Surankote hospital where he died after some time. The people then sat on dharna on the road at Bhata Durian and started protest against police. They alleged that police failed to arrest the car driver who hit the boy and ran from the spot. The people continued protest for about two hours. A large traffic jam was created. SDPO Mendhar Riaz Tantray and SHO Gursai Sanjay Gupta later also arrived there. They assured the people to arrest the accused shortly. They told people that car has been seized. The people then lifted dharna.
The police later managed to arrest the JE from the same area. A case FIR No. 54/ 2017 was registered against him at Gursai Police Station.
Meanwhile, three persons were injured as an Alto car No. JK01U/ 8839 fell down into a gorge at Jarran Wali Gali in Surankote today. The injured identified as Mohd Akram, Shehnaz Akhtar and Salima Bi, residents of Marha village from Surankot were admitted the Surankote Hospital, The police has taken cognizance of the matter.
In yet another car ( JK11B/1437) accident at BG, two persons were injured. They were provided treatment at nearby Army hospital and then referred to DH Rajouri. The victims were identified as Zakir Hussain and Mohd Iqbal, residents of Rajouri.
