NEW DELHI, July 6: Director General, Border Security Forces (BSF), K K Sharma called on Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh and briefed him about the current security situation in Jammu & Kashmir.
In a meeting lasting over 45 minutes, Sharma gave a detailed account of the most modern and sophisticated hi-tech equipments being put into use by the BSF personnel to check infiltration and track down the suspected elements. He said, BSF is fully equipped to meet any kind of challenge on the border any time and thwart the enemy aggression of any magnitude happening any time. The forces are in a 24-hour readiness position with the capability to respond instantly without notice, he added.
Referring to the retaliatory operations undertaken by the BSF along the LoC and the International Border, Director General said, a very heavy casualty has been suffered by Pakistani forces which they were never prepared for or had visualized. He thanked the Union Ministry of Home Affairs and the Modi Government for the professional freedom given to the security forces to choose the optimum course of action.
Responding to speculations in certain quarters that there may be certain violent eruptions in the weeks and months to come in view of ongoing Amarnath Yatra and the autumn to follow, the DG BSF said, the BSF is fully in control of the situation and the militants are on the run. He said, the modern equipment being put into use by them does not only help in detecting the movement of potential infiltrators through thermal rays, but also helps in determining accurate location of the enemy.
Dr Jitendra Singh appreciated the distinguished role of the BSF in guarding the Indian borders, particularly along the LoC and the International Border with Pakistan. He said, “we are proud of our forces which are amongst the best in the world”.
Dr Jitendra Singh assured the DG BSF of full support and backing from the Government of India and said, the Government is committed to provide friendly working conditions for the security personnel, so that they could perform to the best of their potential. The nation, including the people of J&K, are deeply indebted to the security forces, he added.
