Governor, CM, Farooq, Omar pay tributes to 1931 martyrs

SRINAGAR, July 12: Governor N. N. Vohra has called upon the leaders of all political, religious and social parties and organizations and the people to shed all differences and join hands to make Jammu and Kashmir a peaceful, prosperous and among the most developed States in the country.
In his message on the occasion of Martyrs’ Day, the Governor observed that Jammu and Kashmir has been known for its glorious pluralistic ethos, amity and brotherhood, and urged the people to work towards restoring the pristine glory of the State as an abode of peace and harmony.
In her message, the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said the brave hearts of 1931 sacrificed their lives for laying a strong edifice of democracy, equality and liberty in the State which ought to be safeguarded, respected and protected by every citizen.
Mehbooba Mufti said the best way one can pay homage to these heroes is to develop Jammu & Kashmir as an egalitarian and tolerant society, free from the distinctions of religion, region, caste or creed. “The heroes of 1931 had dreamed of a democratic, prosperous and tolerant Jammu & Kashmir for which they even laid their lives. It’s now our responsibility and challenge to make the State truly a model by strengthening these ideals and guarding them firmly,” she said.
The Chief Minister appealed the people of the State to take a pledge on this day to protect and safeguard the honour and dignity of the State and its people at all costs and not let tyranny and suppression resurface in any form in the State.
In his message on the occasion, National Conference President and Member of Parliament for Srinagar, Dr. Farooq Abdullah said the sacrifices of the valiant martyrs were timeless and continue to inspire millions of people to fight for justice, truth and peace.
“The undying thirst for dignity cannot be suppressed by injustice and the 13th July martyrs proved that non-violence and persistence always prevails over oppression and tyranny in the end,” he added.
In his message, National Conference Working President Omar Abdullah said the sacrifices of the martyrs of 13th July will continue to be a beacon of humanity’s fight for dignity and justice. It was their sacrifice that proved a turning point in our history and inspired millions of oppression Kashmiris to rise in unison against an oppression dictatorship. 13th July will always be a day where the people of Kashmir will reiterate their commitment to overcoming evil with kindness, non-violence and peace”, Omar said.
