SRINAGAR, July 17: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Valley Citizens Council seeking directions for the protection and conservation of artefacts, monuments and excavation sites in Kashmir valley, Division Bench of State High Court comprising Chief Justice Badar Durrez Ahmed and Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey today issued certain directions to the State.
After hearing counsel for the PIL and ASGI Tahir Masjid Shamsi, the DB observed, “no breakthrough has so far been made by the CBI vis-à-vis recovery of manuscript of the Quran and the matter is still under investigation”, adding “the ASGI has also sought some time to provide the list of excavation sites in Jammu and Kashmir with the mention that the heritage monuments would also be indicated in list and the same would also be supplemented with photographs”.
“Insofar as State protected monuments of Kashmir division are concerned, a list has been provided along with some photographs. However, we require that the list should also include an abstract with regard to each of the monuments/ excavation sites and further photographs”, the DB said, adding “insofar as the documentation of the coins is concerned the court has been informed that out of the 70899 coins, the catalogue in respect of approximately 24000 coins has been completed and printing of the catalogue for the balance coins is under process”.
“Further progress shall be reported before the next date of hearing”, the DB directed.
