SRINAGAR, July 20: As the standoff between Army and Peoples Liberation Army (PLA) of China continued at Doklam in Sikkim, Director General Border Roads Organisation visited Ladakh to inspect the strategic roads that are vital for the Army movement in the region.
Lt Gen S K Shrivastava, Director General Border Roads Organisation, visited Ladakh to take stock of the construction activities of the various strategic road network, maintained and constructed by the Project Himank of the BRO.
The visit of the Director General to the cold desert assumed significance at a time when the relations between China and India are strained over the troop movement in Doklam area in Sikkim. Ladakh is the most strategic region for India as it borders the country with China.
The DG BRO undertook a detailed inspection of seven operationally, strategically and administratively critical roads spanning a length of approximately 650 kilometers in Eastern Ladakh region near the China border.
Lt General interacted with Chief Executive Councilor, Leh Autonomous Hill Development Council, and General Officer Commanding 14 Corps to discuss various issues involved with development of road communication network required for meeting the development of the region. The Chief Engineer project Himank Brigadier D M Purvimath apprised the General about various measures taken under the Project Himank in connecting un-connecting areas inspite of all odds.
He held a detailed review of the operational requirement of defence forces and assured of all possible efforts from BRO in this direction.
