Vijay Prabhakaran, son of actor and DMDK Founder Vijayakanth, has acquired ‘Chennai Strikers’ in the Indian Cue Masters League, involving some big names in billiards and snooker. Vijay is already the owner of ‘Chennai Smashers’, the defending champion in Badminton Premier League that features P V Sindhu.
”My mission is to promote sports. I want to ensure today’s youngsters take up games to lead a healthy life”, Vijay said, on acquiring the new team in the Cue Slam. The Indian Cue Masters League tournament will be a five team affair that comprised of Hyderabad Hustlers, Delhi Dons, Chennai Strikers, Bengaluru Buddies and Gujarat Kings.
Vijay said ”I love to be associated with sports. If owning a team in Badminton Premier League was a delight, now acquiring a team for Chennai in Cue League has given me immense satisfaction.”
He said the Chennai Strikers team has big names like Pankaj Advani, Vidya Pillai, Dharminder Lilly, Faisal Khan, Pandu Rangaiah E’.
On his decision to own a team in Cue Slam, he said ”I myself played billiards in my younger days. I love it.” ”When the organisers approached me, I agreed to it instantly as I thought it will be a nice opportunity to promote the game in Tamil Nadu”, he added.
”I consider myself lucky. Be it BPL or Cue Slam as I get top players in my side. Everyone knew the heroics of P V Sindhu in BPL. Now I managed to get Pankaj Advani and Vidya Pillai for Chennai Strikers”, Vijay said.
”Though I like cricket, it gets enough patronage. So, I decide to concentrate on other games. Generally there is an opinion that billiards and snooker are rich man’s games. I want to break that myth and make more children take to the cue sport”, he adds. (UNI)
