JAMMU, July 27: Up in arms against the Government move of teaching Kashmiri language as subject in Jammu Colleges, the activists of National Panthers Students Union and Dogri scholars today held a strong protest demonstration near Jammu University.
Shouting slogans and alleging a conspiracy against the Dogri language as well as Dogras, the protesting students also torched an effigy of PDP-BJP Government.
The angry protesters also blocked the road in front of Jammu University main gate and disrupted vehicular movement for some time.
The NPSU activists and Dogri scholars assembled on the campus of Jammu University and amidst raising of slogans, marched towards main gate. As the protest march was intercepted by Police on the University Road, the angry protesters staged a demonstration there. They blocked the road for around half an hour and also torched an effigy of the State Government.
NPSU president Th Virender Singh, who was leading the protest, alleged that the State Government was playing with the sentiments of Jammu people and working on an anti-Dogra policy in order to weaken the Dogra heritage. Asking the Government to immediately revoke its earlier order on Kashmiri Assistant Professor, he also demanded appointment of Professors in Dogri and introduction of Dogri in all the colleges across Jammu division.
Singh also appealed the Bar Association Jammu, Chamber of Commerce, Transport Unions and all the other social and political organizations of Jammu to come together and join the movement to safeguard the Dogra language and heritage.
Kailash Mohan Sharma, a scholar from Dogri Department in JU, said that the Government was testing patience of Jammu Pradesh by announcing such dictatorial decision and every Dogra must fight against the Government move of launching Kashmiri language in Jammu Pradesh.
Parduman Singh, another Dogri scholar, said that Dogras were really hurt by the move of BJP-PDP Government and most astonishing thing was that the people who promised to cut the discrimination with Jammu region before election, were now the main conspirator of killing Dogri language.
