DC Kupwara visits gastrocolitis affected areas

SRINAGAR, July 29: Following reports of outbreak of gastrocolitis in one of the habitation in Kandi area of Handwara tehsil, the district Development Commissioner (DDC) Kupwara Khalid Jahangir visited the affected areas and took stock of the situation.
DDC was accompanied by officers of PHE, Health, R&B, RDD and Revenue.
In order to provide frequent and effective medical services, 4 teams of doctors and paramedics have been constituted by the Health Department. The medical teams have been directed to provide drugs and injectables as required to the effected people on free basis. CMO and BMO Kupwara have been directed to remain stationed in the area for ensuing that the health care services are provided to the people in the area.
Khalid Jahangir also interacted with the inhabitants and conducted extensive tour of the area, besides inspected water reservoir, source of drinking water and PHC Kandi for overseeing the steps being taken to deal with the outbreak.
Responding to the demands of the public, the DDC directed PHE Department to immediately take up the repairing of the water reservoir providing water supply to the area. It was also decided to prepare estimates for laying of distribution line from the water reservoir to the affected habitation within two days for granting necessary authorization to the PHE Department for executing the said work.
The Engineers and other officers of the PHE Department were instructed to undertake chlorination of drinking water being supplied in the area for improving its hygiene. They were further directed to remain present in the area for mitigating the hardships of the public. Besides, instructions were given for providing drinking water through tankers to the residents of the area.
While interacting with the public of the affected area, DDC assured that all possible measures for providing effective health care services and potable drinking water will be provided for the betterment of the people.
