LEH, Aug 3: Two persons including an old woman were killed, while several others received injuries, when the overloaded bus they were travelling in, overturned near Nimmey Ralpa area on Leh-Srinagar National Highway.
The ill-fated vehicle bearing registration number JK10-2497 was on its way to Domkhar village from Leh, when the driver lost control over the vehicle and it overturned, resulting into on the spot death of two persons including 60-years-old woman and several injuries to many others.
After getting information, police team rushed to the spot and shifted the injured persons to SNM and Army Hospitals, where their condition was stated to be out of danger, when reports last came in.
A case under FIR Number 61/17 under Sections 279, 337 and 304-A RPC has been registered at Leh Police Station and investigation started.
Meanwhile, the injured passengers said that the bus was overloaded and its roof was also loaded with some other items. Most of the people were returning back to their respective places after attending the teaching ceremony of spiritual guru Dalai Lama.
To inquire about the health condition of the injured persons, CEC Leh Dr Sonam Dawa and DC Leh Prasanna Ramaswamy G, SSP Leh Uday Bhaskar Billa, ADC Leh Moses Kunzang, Councilors Skurbuchan and Lamayuru visited SNM Hospital.
Dr Sonam Dawa also directed the hospital authorities to provide best medicare facilities to the injured persons.
CEC Leh said that it is the failure of the Government agencies including Police Department which failed to keep check over the vehicles plying with overloaded passengers. He directed the Police Department to keep strict watch over the overloading and implement road safety measures so that precious lives could be saved. He also appealed to the commuters to avoid traveling in overloaded buses.
Member Parliament (MP) Ladakh Thupstan Chhewang in a message also expressed grief over the loss of lives in the accident.
