LEH, Aug 11: Turtuk-II lifted the title trophy of the Horse Police Championship organized at Polo Ground, Turtuk by Siachen Brigade.
During the match, Abdul Manan from village Turtuk-I was adjudged as the ‘Player of the Tournament’.
The main purpose to organize the championship was to keep the spirit of Polo alive and to revive the cultural heritage and also to promote traditional sport in the region. The tournament also gave an opportunity to get acquainted with the Balti traditions and culture.
The tournament was presided over by the Tyakshi Battalion Commander of Indian Army, besides that Gulam Mehadi, Counselor, Amin Polo Drass and all the sarpanches, numberdars, villagers and tourists.
On the occasion, the locals also experienced a glimpse of Maratha culture through various cultural programs performed by the Battalion and Balti folk dance.
Speaking about the event prominent cultural, polo promoter Amin Polo said, “We are always ready to promote cultural and traditional sport of the region”.
The championship was wonderful and if the access between Kargil and Turtuk will ease after opening the road between Hanu to Turtuk, we will organize such events on a grand level, he added.
