Venika Saini of RO J&K emerges winner in badminton women’s singles

JAMMU, Nov 1: Defeating Harinder Kour of RO Delhi convincingly in the title clash, Venika Saini of RO J&K emerged winner in badminton women’s singles event, while the duo of Venika and Kavita got better of Neeru and Swati of RO HP to claim badminton women’s doubles title in the ongoing 10th ESIC North Zone Sports Meet, being held at various venues, here.
SRO Ludhiana will take on Headquarters Office in volleyball title clash. Earlier, in the semi-final clashes, SRO Ludhiana trounced RO Faridabad, while Headquarters Office got better of RO HP.
In cricket final, RO Faridabad will meet SRO Ludhiana. Earlier, in semi-finals, RO Faridabad defeated RO HP, while SRO Ludhiana prevailed upon RO Delhi.
RO Delhi will face Headquarters Office in football final, while in semi-finals, Headquarters Office drubbed D(M)D and RO Delhi outplayed RO HP.
Meanwhile, in chess women, Jaimy Sabastian of RO HP emerged winner and Savita of DMD was runners-up, while in chess men, Rakesh Kumar of DMD and Ashok Kumar Vij of RO Delhi clinched gold and silver respectively.
The carom team championship women went to RO Delhi and DMD emerged runners-up, while, DMD prevailed upon RO Delhi in the title clash of carom team championship men to lift the title.
Meanwhile, Rattan Kumar, Regional Director/President, J&K Sports Control Board under whose supervision the 10th ESIC North Zone Sports Meet is being held informed that the Closing Ceremony of the Sports Meet will be held tomorrow at 3:30 pm at Police Auditorium, Gulshan Ground, Jammu.
