Sir,
This is with reference to Mr. B.L. Saraf’s write up PM’s Outreach to Kashmiris (DE 19 Aug). Kashmir problem has become something like embedded rhetoric and cliché. Much does the writer try to wriggle out of it but he cannot. It is not his fault. Kashmir politics forces every writer to speak sense through nonsense. One such thing is Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s “insaniyat ke nate” hyperbole. What did he want to convey through this hyperbole? Insaniyat ke nate Atal ji went to Lahore in search of peace and insaniyat ke nate Nawaz Sharif launched Kargil that shed the blood of thousands of soldiers and warriors on both sides of the LoC. Was this and subsequent bloodshed all in “insaniyat ke nate?” Separatists, secessionists, Kashmir mainstream and out of stream political stalwarts one and all speak high of Atal Bihari’s cliché. Pak army knew that Atal Bihari was kidding with Kashmiris. They cut him to size with Kargil scalpel.
Modi is made of different stuff. A day will come when ordinary Kashmiris, the daily wagers and peasants (not the elite and affluent pro-Pak class) will understand and appreciate the far reaching truth in the words of Modi that goli aur gali se kuchh nahin milega.
Yours etc….
