Joint House Panel reviews progress of Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex

SRINAGAR : A meeting of the Joint House Committee was held here today under the chairmanship of Member Legislative Council, Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo to review the progress of Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex.

Legislators, G N Monga, Surinder Kumar Choudhary, Rajesh Gupta and S. Charanjeet Singh attended the meeting.

The Committee took detailed review of the status of various components of on-going woks and expressed concern over the slow pace of progress. The executing agencies and concerned officers were directed to speed up the pace to accomplish the project within the targeted period. The Committee issued specific instructions to the officers and executing agencies to maintain the quality of work strictly as per the approved DPR and specifications with special focus on preserving its original historical key architectural features and pristine glory.

The Committee also called for restoration of ‘Chabutra’ in the premises of the Mubarak Mandi as per its original features as it was the main attraction of this historical heritage center. Several other aspects related to the restoration works were discussed in detail and thrust was laid on expediting the pace. The issue relating to the mysterious fire incident that took place in the complex some years back also figured in the discussion and Committed desired to get the findings of the probe which was ordered by the authorities after the incident. In the fire incident, the assets including valuable antique were destroyed. The Panel directed the Council Secretariat to call the Inspector General of Police, Jammu in its next meeting along with relevant record pertaining to the incident and its findings for the information of the Committee.

Senior functionaries of Council Secretariat were also present in the meeting.
