DB directives in PIL on child abuse

JAMMU, Aug 24: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Advocate Shivan Mahajan against child abuse, Division Bench of State High Court comprising Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice BS Walia today sought information with regard to constitution of the Child Welfare Committees as well as for appointment of Chairpersons and Members of the Juvenile Justice Board by next date of hearing.
After hearing Advocate Veenu Gupta appearing for the PIL, the DB observed, “in compliance of the order dated 12.07.2017, the status report has been filed on behalf of the respondents in which it is stated that District Social Welfare Councils for Baramulla, Srinagar, Kargil, Budgam, Leh, Kupwara, Bandipora and Ganderbal have been constituted. However, the information with regard to District Social Welfare Councils in respect of Shopian and Kishtwar districts is awaited”.
“It is also mentioned in the status report that on-line applications were invited from eligible social workers for appointment as Members of Juvenile Justice Board. However, no response was received”, the DB further observed.
“The respondents have taken a decision to re-advertise the posts of Chairpersons and Members of Child Welfare Committees and Members of the Juvenile Justice Board off-line and the process for initiation of off-line applications has been initiated on 08.08.2017 and last date of submission of applications is 22.08.2017”, the DB further observed.
Accordingly, DB directed Deputy AG to address the court with regard to steps taken by the respondents for constitution of the Child Welfare Committees as well as for appointment of Chairpersons and Members of the Juvenile Justice Board by next date of hearing.
