JAMMU, Aug 24: On the penultimate day of the five -day Sate Theatre Festival  being organized  by J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Language,  the Azad Theatre Group from Lar, Gandharbal, Kashmir, staged  ‘Ama Banawo Sahib’, a play in Kashmiri, at Abhinav Theatre, here today.
The group from the muffasil, which has won many commendations at State and National level, presented the play that highlighted the conflict between traditional values and the attraction of materialism which tends to excite the younger generations to choose easy but questionable ways of life.
Written and directed by Rasheed Reshi, today’s play performed in the backdrop of an elaborate set depicting a rural home with a verandah, and the kitchen garden surrounded by salubrious trees, came out as an eye catching affair. With hanging strings of drying vegetable, and number of other props defining everyday activities in a village, along with costumes created on stage the feel of rural Kashmir.
The members of the cast gave a good performance which was appreciated by the audience for their chaste accent that is getting lost in wake of rapid urbanization. The veteran theatre personality Makhan Lal Saraf, speaking on the occasion appreciated the group and asked them to do theatre with zeal and commitment. Arvinder Singh Aman, Additional Secretary, J&K Cultural Academy, facilitated the group’s director Rashid Reshi.
Tomorrow the State Theatre Festival will conclude with Rajneesh Gupta’s adaptation of Rajinder Singh Bedi’s ‘Kirayedar’ being staged in Hindustani by Chander Bhaga aga Sanskriti Manch, Akhnoor.
