CHANDIGARH, Aug 24: Sushant of ER-II and Prantika of CC lifted singles titles in the POWERGRID Inter Regional Badminton Tournament, organized by POWERGRID Corporation of India at Panchkula, near here.
High quality badminton matches were witnessed in the Tournament which concluded today.
In the Team events it was Corporate Centre (CC) all the way in both men and women category.
In the keenly contested finals, CC defeated hosts SR-I (3-1) in the men’s Category, while it trounced SR-II (2-1) in the women’s category.
For the second runners-up position, WR-I defeated hosts NR-II 3-1 and ER2 2-0 in the men’s and women’s categories respectively.
In the singles events in men’s category, Sushant of ER-II emerged as the winner, while Hari Kishore of SR-I and Vivek Suri of WR-I bagged first and second runners- up title respectively.
In the singles event in women’s category, Prantika of CC emerged as the winner, while Nishi Rathore of WR-I and Thapana Deori of NER bagged first and second runners- up title respectively.
In the doubles event men’s category, Amit and Vivek of CC bagged the title while Suresh and Raj Gopal of SR-II and Sushant and Babu of ER-II were first and second runners-up respectively.
In the doubles event of women’s category, Thapana Deori and P. Borah of NER bagged the title while Aditi and Tripti of CC and Nishi and Vandana of WR-I remained first and second runners-up respectively.
The closing ceremony of the tournament was graced by HK Mallick, Executive Director, POWERGRID, Northern Region Transmission system-II in presence of Ram Niwas, General Manager (HP &Haryana), POWERGRID, Rohit Mandan, senior officials of POWERGRID and other guests.
In his address on this occasion, HK Mallick appreciated the skills of the badminton players who participated in the tournament.
Vote of Thanks was presented by Dr JS Chouhan, Chief Manager (HR).
Eleven teams in men’s category and eight teams in women’s category from various Regions and Corporate Centres of POWERGRID participated in the event.
