JAMMU, Aug 29: Jammu and Akhnoor zones were among the six winners on day-2 of the ongoing Inter-Zonal Under-19 Boys Cricket Tournament, being organized by the Department of Youth Servicers and Sports, District Jammu, here.
The Tournament is being held under the patronage of Sheikh Fayaz Ahmed, Director Youth Services & Sports and under the Chairmanship of Madan Lal, Joint, Director Youth Services & Sports, Jammu, while Chanchal Kour DYSSO Jammu was organizing secretary of the competitions.
In six matches played today, with 4 in Pool A
at Parade ground and 2 in Pool B at Girls HSS Bakshi Nagar, Jammu zone beat Miran Sahib by 10 wickets, Gandhi Nagar defeated Dansal by 57 runs, Satwari got better of RS Pura by 57 runs, Bishnah drubbed Arnia by 28 runs, Akhnoor defeated Bhalwal by 8 wickets and Marh outplayed Khour by 9 runs.
The matches are being supervised and observed by a panel of experts including Anju Gupta, Rajesh Dhar, Roopali Salathia, Saleem-ur-Rehman, Mohd Farooq, Jagtar Singh, Satpal Singh, Sadiq Hussain, Rajesh Choudhary, Suresh Singh, Madan Mohan, Satika Sharma, Payal Choudhary and Mukesh Sharma.
Meanwhile, Inter School District Level competitions of district Jammu in the disciplines of Weightlifting, Thai Boxing, Basketball, Rope Skipping, Throw Ball and Softball for girls under all age groups got underway at MAStadium, here.
The competitions were declared open by Chanchal Kour, DYSSO Jammu in a simple function.
In Thai Boxing Under-19 boys, -42 Kg, Tarun Sodhi of Tiny Tots School won gold; -46 kg, Tanish Sharma of Bhagwati Hakiquat School bagged gold; -50 kg,Tanmay Mohan of MHAC Nagbani clinched gold; -54 kg, Varun Pandoi of Nand Public HS School won gold; -58 kg, Rattan Lal of Nand Public HS School claimed gold; -62 kg, Rahi Dutta of Indra Public School clinched gold; -66 kg, Raj Kumar of Bhagwati Hakiquat High School won gold; -70 Kg, Tanshiv Raina of Raina HSS claimed gold; -80 kg, Aniket Jamwal of Shastri Nagar HSS claimed gold and in -85 Kg, Gourav Sharma of Shastri Nagar HSS won gold.
Soft ball trials are also being conducted and around 70 student participated.
The Department of Youth Services and Sports Kathua started its Inter Zonal District Level tournaments in the disciplines of Kabaddi, Kho-Kho Volleyball and Cricket and Athletic Meet for boys and Girls of Under-19 age group at Sports Stadium Kathua.
The 5-day tournament was inaugurated by Senior Superint-endent of Police Kathua, M. Suleman Choudhary in the presence of DYSSO Kathua, Subash Chander Bhardwaj and ZPEOs of District Kathua.
Zone Hiranagar emerged overall champion of the day by lifting four titles namely Kho-Kho u-19 Boys, Volleyball u-19 Boys, Kho-Kho u-19 Girls, and Kabaddi u-19 Girls. Besides this, Zone Hiranagar remained runners- up in Volleyball U-19 Girls.
