APS Akhnoor, RoJ win titles

Excelsior Sports Correspondent JAMMU, Sept 5: Army public school Akhnoor gave a dominating display of all round basketball to crush their opponents Delhi Public School by 53-28, in the boys section while Rest of Jammu green outplayed JK public school to win titles at the maiden inter school provincial basketball championship organized by J&K Basketball Association at MA stadium here. Akhnoor boys dominated the proceedings from the very beginning and gave no breathing space to their opponents through their strict man to man marking. Sumit Kumar, Shivam Heer, Deepak Bhardwaj Prashant Singh and Rishab Walter were the mainstay of APS Akhnoor. In girls section, JKPS put up a spirited performance and matched up with their skillful opponents in the initial stages, but could not match fast counter attacks of the RoJ girls. Earlier in the day, MHAC Nagbani boys gave APS Akhnoor run for their money in closely fought semi final, going down 80-84. Abhinav Sharma fought valiantly for the losers and scored 52 points for his time, but his efforts fell short of earning a place in the finals. The final match was officiated by Manoj Kumar, Harpreet Singh and Rajesh Bandral. Arun Manhas, ADC Jammu was the chief guest at the prized distribution ceremony, who while addressing the players highlighted the need to emphasize on larger participation in sports and to incentivize sportsperson. Prominent among those present on the occasion included office bearers of the JKBA, Officers of the SAI and JKSSC, SHO Trikuta Nagar, Principals of the participating schools and parents in large number.
