NIA raids will yield nothing if intended to scare separatists: Farooq

SRINAGAR: Reacting to raids conducted by National Investigation Agency in connect with terror funding in the state, National Conference (NC) president and MP Farooq Abdullah today said that such actions will not yield any result if it were intended to scare the separatist leaders.

“I will consider these raids valid only if something substantial comes out of it. If it is just to scare them separatists), and force them to bend? I would like to tell the NIA and the Centre that no matter how much atrocities they commit, people here (in Kashmir) will not sell their conscious,” Dr Abdullah told reporters on the sidelines of a function held on the death anniversary of his father and former chief minister and founder of NC Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah.

Dr Abdullah, who is former chief minister of J&K, said that Hurriyat Conference leaders should be released “so that they can tell Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh what they have to tell.” Mr Singh is all set to arrive in the state on a four-day visit to initiate a dialogue process.

The NC president said that he has no expectations from Union Home Minister’s visit to the state. “He will come. He will meet people like he met them before? what happened then? He (Rajnath Singh) led MP delegation to the valley. What happened to the findings of the delegation? So I don’t expect anything from his visit,” Dr Abdullah said.

He also asked the NIA to investigate the money being spent by Government to fragment the NC.

Reacting to the murder of journalist Gauri Lankesh in Bengaluru, he said it is most tragic event for the people who want to defend democracy. “She has raised her voice against the communal elements in the country. We support all those who oppose the communal elements,” he said.

Dr Abdullah said ethnic cleansing of Rohingya Muslims in the Rakhine state of Myanmar was the most tragic event of the century. “It is the most tragic event of the century where innocent people are being killed because of their religion.

I would like to question the United Nations (UN) and other bodies? what are they doing? Haven’t they seen the killing of the innocent people and the murder of humanity,” he said.

Dr Abdullah said the assault on the State’s special status was a challenge that should unite everyone who was sincere towards the people and committed to defend the State’s unique political and cultural identity.

“The assault on Article 35-A is an assault on our soul and our identity and we should all unite to defend our honour.

The powers that be are using myths and distortions to support their long-cherished goal of weakening J&K from within but in the end the truth always prevails.

Article 35-A is not for any one region or religion of the State but is an article of faith and honour for all regions and religions.

The party’s outreach and awareness programme is being met with overwhelming response in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh regions and this is a proof of our unity in standing up for our rights as one State and one people irrespective of our religion, region, caste or creed,” Dr Abdullah added. (AGENCIES)
