J&K rugby team leaves for Pakistan to participate in international event

SRINAGAR Nov 4: Jammu and Kashmir Rugby Association today flagged off a contingent of 12 players and three officials for a Punjab International Sports Festival to be organized from November 7 to November 15 at Lahore in Pakistan.
The players were flagged of by President Jammu Kashmir Rugby Association (JKRA) and DDC Kupwara, Sarmad Hafeez in presence of Chairman JKRA Mohammad Iqbal here at Bakshi Stadium.
The J&K team is a part of 152 contingents from India which included a team from Delhi. The festival in Lahore will also feature Rugby teams from Uzbekistan, New Zeeland, Laos and host teams from Pakistan.
Earlier, the J&K players had an exhibition match at Bakshi Stadium as a part of preparation for the festival.
Sarmad Hafeez who was the chief guest on the occasion expressed happiness over the participation of J&K team in the international rugby festival.
“It is a matter of great pleasure that our team has been chosen in the entire India for the international festival. The festival will be a great learning experience for the players,” said Hafeez.
Hafeez urged the players to act as ambassadors for J&K in Pakistan.
JKRA distributed track suits and T-shirts to the participants of the event.
Speaking on the occasion Chairman JKRA Mohammad Iqbal said J&K team will be part of India team which will participate in the international event in Pakistan.
