51 brick kilns around Srinagar Airport asked to close down operations

SRINAGAR: As many as 51 brick kilns around Srinagar International Airport have been asked by the authorities to close down their operations following  directions by the Jammu and Kashmir High Court.

An official spokesperson here this evening said that in adhering the Court’s direction regarding relocation of brick kiln located around the Airport, the Deputy Commissioner Budgam has ordered closure of 51 brick kilns. “They include 34 from Tehsil Chadoora and 17 from Tehsil Budgam,” he said.

The court gave these directions in order to improve the visibility, particularly during the month of October and November, around the airport.

Further, the Director Airport has been asked to indicate the funnel area of the Airport and broad Contours of the area around which brick kilns need to be closed. (AGENCIES)
