JAMMU, Sept 13: Akhnoor Sports Club paid rich tributes to Lt Thakur Dass Sharma on his Shaheedi Divas.
Lt Thakur Dass Sharma embraced martyrdom on this day in 1965 Indo-Pak war in Kalidhar sector while defending Indian territory in a fierce aggression by Pak army.
Col Bana Ram Sharma (Retd), Munish Anand, SDPO Akhnoor, SK Sharma, secretary of Akhnoor Sports Club and other members of executive body paid floral tributes to Lt Thakur Dass Sharma in a simple function.
Prominent citizens as well as the veteran sportsmen and contemporary sportspersons of Thakur Dass also paid rich homage to the martyr. The tribute ceremony started and ended with National Anthem.
SK Sharma revisited the biography of the martyr and the history of foundation of the memorial of Thakur Dass in 1966 to infuse a spirit of patriotism in the young generation and reaffirmed his commitment to keep the light of martyrdom burning.
Since its establishment, Akhnoor Sports Club has been maintaining the memorial and supporting sports activities in Akhnoor town as the most befitting tribute to the extraordinary sports spirit of Lt Thakur Dass Sharma.
Praising the valiant army officer of Akhnoor who laid down his life for defending the motherland, chief guest Col Bana Ram Sharma (Retd) exhorted the youth to come forward to defend the borders of the motherland.
Dr Vidya Sagar Verma and Dr Romesh Kashyap, joint secretary and vice president of the Club, respectively were also present.
