Nationwide Sanitation Campaign ‘Swachhta Hi Sewa’ launched across State

JAMMU, Sept 15: To commemorate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi–Father of the Nation, Nationwide Sanitation Campaign “Swacchta Hi Sewa” launched across the State.
Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh kick started sanitation campaign “Swachhta Hi Sewa” from the banks of river Tawi organized by Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) in collaboration with district administration to mark the 3rd anniversary of Swachh Bharat Mission on October 2. Legislator, Rajesh Gupta, Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Dr MK Bhandari, Commissioner JMC, M Raju, Deputy Commissioner, Kumar Rajeev Ranjan besides officers of JMC, police and civil administration, members of civil society, civil defense, representatives of Tawi Andolan, students and a large number of volunteers were also present on the occasion.
As part of the nation-wide cleanliness drive, MP Nazir Ahmad Laway launched the cleanliness drive “Swachhta Hi Sewa” from Mini Secretariat Kulgam. He was accompanied by the Deputy Commissioner, Kulgam, Talat Parvez Rohella and other district officers. On the occasion, DC Kulgam constituted 5 teams headed by ADDC, ADC, ACR, ACD and Xen PDD who undertook sanitation drives in different areas.

Minister of State for Education, Technical Education, Culture, Tourism, Horticulture, Floriculture and Parks, Priya Sethi kick started “Swachhta Hi Seva” campaign, being organized by the Department of Floriculture. In Jammu District various parks have been identified for the cleanliness drive. Project Director, Bagh-e-Bahu Project, Sunil Misri, Deputy Director Floriculture, AK Gupta, Deputy Director (P&S), Sukhleen Kour, Executive Engineer, Arvind Gupta, Accounts Officer, Sunil Kumar Gupta, Landscape Officer Bagh-e-Bahu, DV Gupta, Floriculture Officer Jammu, SK Sultan and other officers of the department were present on the occasion.
Minister for Public Health Engineering (PHE), Irrigation and Flood Control (I&FC) Sham Lal Choudhary inaugurated “Swachhta Hi Sewa” campaign in Kashmir. Minister of State for Haj and Auqaf, PHE and Irrigation and Flood Control, Syed Farooq Ahmad Andrabi was also present on the occasion. Secretary PHE, I&FC Saurabh Bhagat, Chief Engineer PHE Kashmir GM Bhat, Chief Engineer PHE Jammu AK Gandotra, Chief Engineer I&FC P Jammu N Bali, officers and employees of the departments were also present of the occasion.
Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Asiea Naqash launched Lakes and Waterways Development Authority’s (LAWDA) special drive for de-weeding of macrophyte weeds and solid waste collection from Dal and Nigeen lakes as part of the “Swachhta Hi Sewa” campaign. Chief Secretary BB Vyas, Commissioner Housing and Urban Development Hirdesh Kumar, Vice Chairman LAWDA Dr Hafeez Masoodi, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Syed Abid Shah and other concerned officers were also present on the occasion.
Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Udhampur Pawan Kumar Gupta along with District Development Commissioner, Ravinder Kumar launched the “Swachhta Hi Sewa” campaign by holding a cleanliness drive at Holy Devika Ghat. SSP Rayees Bhat, various district officers and prominent citizens of the town also participated in the drive. Earlier, the DDC also flagged off a door-to-door garbage collection van and an awareness rally. Later, a Sandhya Nukkad was organized at Mand West, Tikri. ADDC Arvind Sharma, ASP Faizal Qureshi, ACD Om Prakash, DPO Sandeep Seointra and other district officers were present in various programmes.
Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan kick-started “Swachhta Hi Sewa” campaign from DC Office complex. Additional Commissioner Kashmir, Joint Commissioner, SMC, Deputy Director, Planning and other officers were present on the occasion.
The drive was kick started at District Headquarters Rajouri by the Vice Chairman of Advisory Board for Pahari Speaking People, Kuldeep Raj Gupta and District Development Commissioner Dr  Shahid Iqbal Choudhary in presence of SSP Yougal Manhas. Similar drives were also initiated in all subdivisions of the district by respective sub-divisional administrations.
The programme was launched from District Hospital Samba which included a special cleanliness drive for promoting the sense of hygiene among general public. MLA Samba, Dr Devinder Kumar Manyal, Deputy Commissioner, Sheetal Nanda, SSP Anil Magotra, Additional SP, Raja Adil Hamid, DPO, Aijaj Qaiser, SDMs, ACR and all district officers were present on occasion. Besides volunteers from NGOs like Lions Club, Rotary Club, other social organizations, school children contributed in the drive.
District Administration Kathua headed by DDC Ramesh Kumar kick started the campaign at entry point of state Lakhanpur by flagging off ‘Swacchta Vahan’. Team of officers held a Shramm Daan session where district officers and officials participated in cleaning of areas. SSP Kathua, Suleman Chaudhary, ADC Kathua, Rishpal Singh, DC Commercial Taxes, Puneet Sharma, CEO LSDA, GM DIC, ASP Khalil Poswal, PO ICDS, RTO, ACD, DPO, engineers of different departments and other district officers were present on the occasion.
District Development Commi-ssioner, Kumar Rajeev Ranjan today flagged off ‘Swachhta Express’ aimed at raising awareness on ‘Swachhta hi Sewa’ campaign along with screening of movie ‘Toilet Ek Prem Katha’. ADDC, Anuradha Gupta, ADC, Arun Manhas, ADC Kanta Devi, ACR Nissar Shad, ACR, Sachin Jamwal and other officers were present on the occasion.
District Development Commi-ssioner Ramban Tariq Hussain Ganai launched a massive drive under “Swachhta Hi Sewa” campaign from Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Ramban. SSP Ramban Mohan Lal, CEO, Dr Chander Shaker, DPO, Tariq Suharwardy, ASP, Mushtaq Choudhary, Principal GHSS Parshotam, Deputy CMO, Iqbal Bhat and other officers were present on the occasion.
District administration Doda also carried a sanitation drive under the banner of “Swachhta Hi Sewa” campaign from District Hospital. Deputy Commissioner, Bhawani Rakwal, SSP Doda Mohd Shabir, SP (HQ) Vinay Kumar, CMO Doda Wajid Ali, DSP HQ Iftikhar, EO Municipal Committee Doda, police jawans and sweepers of Municipal Committee Doda participated in the drive. DDC also flagged off a Swachh Bharat Mission rally from Boys HSS.
A sanitation drive under Swaach Bharat Abhiyan was organized at Government Higher Secondary School (Boys) Kishtwar with collaboration and participation of all Government departments including banks and private institutions. The attendants took the pledge to maintain “Swachta” in and around the surrounding areas. Later a rally of about 300 school children for “Green India clean India my dream India, Clean India movement” was flagged off by the DDC Kishtwar.
Sanitation campaign “Swac-hhta Hi Sewa” was launched in the premises of administrative complex of DC Pooonch office. ADDC Abdul Hamied, ADC Dr Bashrat Hussain, ACR Ashraf, Joint Director Education, DPO Poonch Dr Majid Jahangir, EO Municipality, Chief Education Officer, principals and schools children were present on the occasion. DC flagged of Swachhta express equipped with public addressable system and resource persons to create awareness in every nook and corner of the district.
A series of activities were organized across the district Reasi under Nation Wide Sanitation Campaign “Swachhta Hi Sewa” which was launched by ADDC Ramesh Chander from district administrative complex. Among others ADC Babu Ram, SSP Tahir Bhat, ACD MY Malik, GM DIC Anil Thakur, CPO, DPO, CEO BS Jaral, CMO Dr LD Bhagat, Executive Engineers of PDD, R&B, REW, PHE were also present on the occasion. At Katra, SDM Neelam Khajuria and Tehsildar Mohit Raina launched the campaigns. The local artists displayed Nukad Natak to generate massive awareness on cleanliness and sanitation. Tehsildar Mahore Munshi Ram led huge gathering of employees and local people removed heaps of waste papers and garbage dumps besides taking round of the main bazaar to collect the garbage in dustbins. The Pouni Tehsil also witnessed scores of events. Similar activities were organized at Tehsils Arnas, Thakrakote, Bhomag, Thuroo, etc.
DDC Kupwara Khalid Jahangir kick-started the cleanliness and sanitation drive under the banner of nationwide campaign namely “Swachhta Hi Sewa” from District Headquarter Kupwara by flagging off Swachhta Vehicle and a massive rally wherein students, civil society members, district officers and Government officials participated.
“Swachhta Hi Sewa” campaign was launched by District Administration Udhampur under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Udhampur. A large number of students of Government and private Institutions of Udhampur participated in the campaign.
“Swachhta Hi Sewa” campaign was launched by MLA Samba Dr Devinder Kumar Manyal in his adopted Model Higher Secondary School (Boys), Samba. On the occasion, MLA apprised the gathering about the need of cleanliness. The campaign was launched under the supervision of ANO Capt Sanjeev Jamwal and Khem Raj, wherein NCC cadets of the school, CEO, DEPO Samba, Principal Arvin Kumar, Vice Principal Renuka Nagwal, Kulbhushan Singh, Pavinder Singh and many others were present.
Director School Education Jammu Ravinder Singh launched “Swachhta Hi Sewa” campaign in the premises of Directorate of School Education, in which Director and all the staff members took part.
Tehsildar Bishnah launched “Swachhta Hi Sewa” campaign along with senior citizens at Bishnah. On the occasion, Tehsildar apprised the people and students about the need of cleanliness and hygiene.
In South Kashmir, DIG, South Kashmir Range SP Pani led its staff in cleaning the area in and around the DIG office while as SSP Anantnag Altaf Ahmad Khan started the sanitation campaign from his office and visited many police stations and offices to supervise the campaign. ASP Pulwama, Chandan Kohli and DySP DAR Pulwama, Divender Singh led the police official to clear the area in and around the District Police Lines and DPO Pulwama. In Awnatipora, the drive was started under the supervision of SSP Awantipora, Mohd Zaid,  while SSP Kulgam, Shridhar Patil led the jawans and officers under his command to clear the garbage and around DPO Kulgam and DLP Kulgam. In Shopian, the drive started at DPL Shopian in which senior officers and official of the district under the supervision of SSP Shopian Ambarkar Shriram Dinkar participated.
In Central Kashmir’s Srinagar District, the drive started under the supervision of DySP DAR at District Police Lines Srinagar and DPO Srinagar and in Ganderbal, the drive started at DPO Ganderbal under the supervision of SSP Ganderbal. Fayaz Ahmad Lone who was also accompanied by other senior officer of the district. In Budgam, the drive started at DPO Budgam under the supervision of SSP Budgam Tejinder Singh. In Leh, the drive was supervised by SSP Leh Udaya Bhaskar Billa. T Gyalpo, SSP Kargil alongwith Ishtiyaq Ahmad Kachoo, DySP Hqrs Kargil started the campaign in the district.
In North Kashmir, SSP Baramulla Imtiyaz Hussain Mir led the officers and official of the district and started the cleaning at DPO Baramulla and also visited other police establishments of the district and took stock of the drive. In Sopore, the drive was launched by SSP Sopore Harmeet Singh Mehta and in Handwara, Ghulam Geelani SSP Handwara led the sanitation campaign. In Bandipora, Sheikh Zulfikar Azad SSP Bandipora supervised the campaign. The sanitization drive in Kupwara was led by Shamsher Hussain, SSP Kupwara.
In Police Control Room, Kashmir (PCR) and in Police Control Room, Jammu the campaign was started by Suhail Munawar Mir and Joginder Singh respectively.
Shailender Singh, Comma-ndant of AP 9th and Abdul Rashid Bhat Commandant IRP 20th Battalion led and supervised their men in clearing the garbage and other wasted material in Armed Police Complex Zewan and Parihaspora, Pattan respectively.
In Jammu, the campaign was launched by Sunil Gupta, SSP Jammu, in Samba, Anil Magotra, SSP Samba led the campaign of cleanliness from the District Hospital Samba in which other police officers and officials participated. In Kathua the drive was launched by SSP Kathua Mohammad Suleman Choudhary.
In Udhampur, Rayees Mohammad Bhat, SSP Udhampur supervised the officers and jawans during the drive and in Reasi, the sanitation drive was launched and supervised by SSP Reasi Tahir Sajad Bhat.
In Doda-Kishtwar-Ramban, Mohammad Shabir, SSP Doda, Mohan Lal, SSP Ramban and Abrar Ahmad, SSP Kishtwar started the campaign in their respective districts.
In Poonch, SSP Rajiv Pandey along with Additional SP Masroor Mir and DySP DAR Mohan Sharma launched the campaign, whereas in Rajouri, the campaign was started by Yougal Manhas, SSP Rajouri.
Besides, the drive continued throughout the day in all the police stations and police posts and other police establishments across Jammu and Kashmir including SKPA Udhampur and other Police Trainings Schools.
The fifteen-days long “Swachhta Pakhwada” culminated at the University of Jammu with an elaborate programme organized by Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu. Prof Keshav Sharma, Dean Academic Affairs was the chief guest on the occasion. In this regard, a day-wise action plan for Swachhta Pakhwada for fifteen days was undertaken by Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu with active support from University Authorities, All the Teaching Departments, University Health Centre, PROVOST (Boys & Girls), Campus NSS Units, Teachers, Staff & most importantly zestful participation of Students and Scholars of the University of Jammu. Earlier, Prof Satnam Kour presented the welcome address. On the culmination, a Swachhta song composed by Suraj Singh was presented by the students from Institute of Music and Fine Arts. A skit “Safai Hum Karenge” specially prepared for the occasion and written and directed by Sumeet Sharma, Drama Instructor was also featured. Prize distribution ceremony was held in which the winners of various competitions were presented awards by the chief guest. In the end, Dr Anupama Vohra, Associate Dean Students Welfare presented vote of thanks.
Girls Wing of GDC, RS Pura conducted poster making on the topic “Swachhta Hi Sewa” under the supervision of Prof Bindu Kumari, NCC Incharge, in the college campus. All the cadets participated in the competition and made different posters reflecting the message to clean home, neighbourhood and city. Principal, Prof Kalpana Kesar was the chief guest.
NCC Unit (Girls Wing) of Government Degree College Bishnah organized a seminar on ‘Swacchta Abhiyan” so as to inaugurate ‘Swachhta Hi Sewa’ Pakhwada. Prof KS Koushal, Principal of the college was the chief guest. The programme was organized under the supervision of Prof Preeti Dogra, Incharge NCC Unit along with Prof Priyanka Mahajan. NCC cadets presented their views on ‘Swachhta Hi Sewa’ campaign.
15-days long Swachh Bharat Pakhwada organised by KV No 2 Akhnoor concluded. Principal of the institution Didar Singh apprised the students about cleanliness, hygiene and sanitation. All students and staff whole-heartedly participated and endeavoured to clean the premises. During 15-days long programme, various programmes were held.
The 15-days long Swachhta Pakhwada concluded at KV Nagrota. While speaking, Principal Anuj Kumar laid stress upon the cleanliness of hones, surroundings, city, schools and public places. The teachers and students participated in different activities. Plays, lectures, debates and painting competitions were also organised.
The NCC Unit of GLDM Degree College, Hiranagar celebrated the “Swachhta Hi Sewa Pakhwada”. In the event, the NCC cadets carried out a cleanliness drive in the college premises. The event begins with the address by the Principal of the College Dr Naresh Kumar Gupta. The event was supervised by the ANO of the College Dr Virender Pal Singh. The whole event was carried out under the guidance of Col Raj Mohan Singh, Co Ist J&K Armed Sqn NCC Jammu.
