JAMMU, Sept 16: BJP State spokesperson Prof. Virender Gupta in response to Omar’s boasting that NC won’t have allowed attack on Article 35A and BJP led Government would not have dared to talk about this provision or the Article 370, had his party, NC been in power in the State, said that at the first instance it is not BJP or Government at the Centre that has filed writ petition in the Supreme Court.
In a statement issued here today, he said it were the concerned people who are being discriminated, whose fundamental rights are being snatched because of un-constitutional provision of Article 35A, have gone to the Supreme Court for getting justice and revoking of Article 35A, which does not have the sanction of Indian Parliament.
The spokesperson while replying to his attempt to blow self trumpet, reminded him that during the period when NC was in power in the State from 1996 to 2002 and 2008-2014 it failed to get revoked AFSPA, in spite of having support of then Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram. He added that no talks with separatists and with Pakistan could be held and power projects could not be brought to the State, during the period when Omar was Chief Minister and Congress was ruling at the Centre. He said that the borders which remained peaceful for about eight years after BJP Government led by Atal Behari Vajpayee started getting disturbed and cross border firing began, particularly after 2010.
The spokesperson reminded that when Omar was Minister of State in the Vajpayee’s Government, the Autonomy resolution passed by the State Legislature at the time when Farooq Abdullah was heading Government in the State, was put into the dustbin and no cognizance of the resolution was taken by the Government of India. Then Omar continued to remain in the Government at the Centre, without raising any protest, because of lust for power, he added.
