JAMMU, Nov 5: State Government employees ‘Civil Secretariat Chalo’ march was foiled by strong contingent of police on the opening day of the Darbar Move offices in the winter capital city here today.
A large number of employees from various departments and the Public Sector Undertakings including Health, PHE, JMC, SFC, SRTC etc assembled near Press Club in the morning under the banner of State Government Employees Joint Action Committee (SGEJAC) and held strong protest demonstration. Senior trade union leaders Sushil Sudan, Suresh Sharma, Ishtiaq Ahmed Beg, Subash Verma etc were leading.
The employees started arriving at the venue near Press Club, around 10 am. A large number of them from State Forest Corporation, SRTC, JKTDC, JDA etc also participated. They held protest demonstration in support of their pending demands. They also shouted slogans against the Chief Minister and the State Government. Several employees’ leaders also addressed the large gathering.
Sushil Sudan and Suresh Sharma while speaking on the occasion condemned the State Government for causing delay in addressing pending issues of the employees. They said the commitment made by the Government with the employees’ representatives has not been honoured. They demanded that all the pending genuine and justified demands of the employees regarding regularization, removal of pay anomalies, enhancement of retirement age, 6th Pay Commission benefit to all PSU workers etc be addressed without any further delay.
Later, they started their proposed protest march towards Civil Secretariat. But a strong contingent of police stopped them at Dogra Chowk and did not allow them to come out on the road and even disrupt traffic. The employees resisted the police move but they could not proceed towards Gumat and Shalamar Road. The Police resorted to cane-charge on the agitating employees but no one was hurt in the scuffle. Their proposed Secretariat march was foiled by police. The employees then continued their protest at the same venue for some more time and then they dispersed.
