JAMMU, Sept 21: Up in arms against shifting of Government ration depot from the village to outside, hundreds of inhabitants of village Sunjwan in Bahu tehsil of Jammu held a strong protest demonstration.
They raised slogans against the Department of Food and Civil Supplies, which was adopting a criminal silence over shifting of the ration depot from the village by the dealer on his own without any order from the Government.
They demanded immediate suspension of the salesman/dealer as well as the erring officers and relocating the ration depot to its earlier site.
The protesting villagers alleged that the said dealer was indulged in corrupt practices and had been black marketing the ration meant for BPL families thereby depriving the genuine ration card holders from getting the ration.
They also alleged that the depot was shifted to outside the village in connivance with the concerned officers for facilitating black marketing of the ration. “With the shifting of ration depot to outside village, the inhabitants will have to travel more than two kms to get the ration and it will not be feasible for them to again cover such a big distance after carrying ration on their head,” they explained and demanded immediate intervention of the concerned Minister.
Later, a delegation of the villagers also met MLC Vikram Randhawa and apprised him of the problem being faced by them owing to shifting of the ration depot.
The MLC assured to take up the matter with concerned minister for necessary action against the erring officers as well as the ration dealer.
