3rd Annual Inter-State NZ Declamation Contest organized

JAMMU, Nov 6: 3rd Annual Inter-State (Northern Zone) Declamation Contest for the Silver Rolling Trophy Instituted by Governor of J&K, NNVohra was organized by the Department of Higher Education, at Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, here today.
The programme commenced with lighting of the traditional lamp followed by Saraswati Vandana. The Valedictory function was graced by the presence of N N Vohra, Governor as the chief guest and the Usha Vohra, First lady of the State was the guest of honour.
Abdul Gani Malik, Minister for Higher Education, Labour and Employment presided over the function., who earlier was the chief guest on the inaugural function.
Dr Kiran Bakshi, College Principal presented welcome address, wherein she described the contest as a visionary step of Governor NN Vohra towards the objective of achieving Socio-Cultural inter-mingling of the States.
A large number of students from the Northern States like Delhi, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Chandigrah, Uttrakhand and J&K participated in the event.
Prof Nalini Kohli, Director Colleges in her presidential address thanked all the participants of Northern States for their overwhelming response and cooperation.
Dr. Kiran Bakshi, principal of the College welcomed all the guests.
While addressing the audience Abdul Gani Malik appreciated the performance of the students and called it as a transitional phase to unleash the knowledge and emerge out as shining stars. In his address the Governor complemented students for their outstanding performance and encouraged them to be the “motivational force” for the “others”. This will guide the young generations to learn, imbibe and disseminate both knowledge and information for their bright future.
Dr Manish Tiwari, Department of Sociology, Central University of Rajasthan, Prof Varun Tripathi, Department of Philosophy, SMVDU Katra, Dr Ved Ghai, Former Head, Department of Sanskrit, Jammu University, Prof Sneh Samyal, Former HoD Economics and Prof Vijay Kotwal, Former Principal were the adjudicator to evaluate the performance of the participants whereas the observers for the event were Prof ZA Chat, Nodal Principal, Amar Singh College Srinagar and Prof Navdeep Singh Tung, Head Department of Psychology, GNDU Amritsar.
The prizes were given away by the Governor to the winners. The first prize was clinched by Polina Singh of GCW, Gandhi Nagar and Abhinandan Singh of GCET, Jammu constituting the winning team, the runner up team included Junaid Yaseen of Islamia College, Srinagar and Asma Zahoor of GCW, M.A Road, Srinagar. The cash prizes of Rs 11000, Rs 7500 and Rs 5000 were given to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd winners of the contest. The first cash prize was given to Ghulam Mustafa of GDC, Poonch, second was given to Polina Singh of GCW, Gandhi Nagar and the third was given to Junaid Yaseen of Islamia College, Srinagar.
Besides this the two consolation prizes of Rs 2500 each were given to Asma Zahoor of GCW, MA Road, Srinagar and Abhinandan Singh of GCET, Jammu.
All the participants were given mementoes and certificates of participation. Prof Satinder Singh, Nodal Principal, GGM Science College, Jammu presented vote of thanks, while the programme was conducted by Kokila, Padmini, Nomana, Vinnie, Arushi and Anushree.
