JAMMU, Oct 2: Keeping check over sale of illicit liquor on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, which has been declared as dry day, police apprehended seven persons including a lady.
As per police sources, on reliable inputs, a team from Gandhi Nagar Police Station laid a naka near Nai Basti and intercepted two persons, who were trying to hide themselves from the cops.
During checking, police recovered 90 pouches of illicit liquor from their possession, which they were carrying for selling among the masses to make illegitimate profits on the eve of dry day.
The arrested persons have been identified as Harjeet Singh, son of Jai Singh of Rani Bagh and Sunil Sudan, son of Pitamber Sudan of Mohallah Krishna Nagar, Miran Sahib.
A case under FIR Number 172/17 under Section 188 RPC and 48-A Excise Act has been registered at Gandhi Nagar Police Station and investigation started.
Police team led by SHO Gandhi Nagar DySP (P) Dr Sunniya Ashkoor Wani made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO South Mohammad Rafiq Manhas and SP South Sandeep Choudhary.
Meanwhile, on specific information about sale of illicit liquor on the eve of dry day, a police team led by SDPO RS Pura Surinder Choudhary under the supervision of SP Headquarters Jammu RC Kotwal conducted raid in Kotli Shah Doula and arrested two persons along with 45 pouches of illicit liquor, which they were selling among the people from outside their houses.
The arrested persons have been identified as Suchet Singh alias Sheti, son of Jeewan Singh and Mehar Singh alias Jalla, son of Harnam Singh, both residents of Kotli Shah Doula.
A case under FIR Number 231/17 under Section 48-A Excise Act has been registered at Police Station RS Pura and investigation started.
In another case, on credible information, a team from Akhnoor Police Station arrested a shopkeeper along with 106 pouches and 33 quarters of illicit liquor and one beer. The arrested person has been identified as Neelam Kumar, son of Ram Saran of Gurha Jagir. The illicit liquor was provided to him by the salesman of a wine shop namely Sham Lal of Bhalwal Tehsil Akhnoor for selling among the people for illegitimate profits on dyry day today.
A case under FIR Number 203/17 under Section 188 RPC and 48-A and 49-B Excise Act has been registered at Akhnoor Police Station and investigation started.
The arrest was made by SHO Akhnoor Inspector Pushpinder Singh under the supervision of SDPO Akhnoor Munish Anand and Additional SP Rural Jammu Arun Gupta.
In another same instance, a team from Bus Stand Police Station apprehended a person along with 70 pouches of illicit liquor. The arrested person has been identified as Abdul Qayoom, son of Abdul Razzak of District Ramban.
A case under FIR Number 85/17 under Section 48-A Excise Act has been registered at Police Station Bus Stand and investigation started.
Police team led by SHO Bus Stand Inspector Ravi Kant made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO City Varun Jandial and SP City Dr Vinod Kumar.
A team from Narwal Police Post apprehended a woman along with 62 pouches of illicit liquor. The arrested lady has been identified as Poppy, wife of late Madan Kumar of Rajeev Nagar.
A case under FIR Number 229/17 under Section 188 RPC and 48-A Excise Act has been registered at Police Station Bahu Fort and investigation started.
Police team led by Incharge Narwal Police Post SI Vikram Manhas made the arrest under the supervision of SHO Bahu Fort Inspector Bharat Sharma, SDPO East Arun Jamwal and SP South Sandeep Choudhary.
