JAMMU, Oct 6: The residents of over dozen of villages in Niki Tawi island are up in arms against the authorities for their failure in constructing the four km long stretch of road linking the Raipur Satwari to Mandal Phallian which was washed away along with the bridge on Niki Trawi during the flash floods of 2014.
The Government constructed the bridge on the river and it was inaugurated by the Chief Minster Ms Mehbooba Mufti recently but the four kilometer road along it is still in dilapidated condition putting the daily commuters to many hardships.
The road is total death trap as many accidents take place there due to deep ditches and staking of boulders over it, said Gaurav Sharma a resident of the area. He said it is difficult to drive a two wheeler, three wheeler or four wheeler on this road especially during darkness as there is every apprehension of accident. Mostly two wheelers skid on this portion of road resulting into injuries to the scooterist s and bikers, he added.
He said though the issue was taken to the authorities many times but they failed to construct the four km long strip of road in the area which has generated a lot of public resentment.
“It is unfortunate that the Government is not paying any attention in constructing this portion of road despite many representation given by the people of the respective villages to concerned authorities”, said Raman Kumar another resident of the area.
He said the daily commuters especially the employees, school and college going students are worried due to the bad condition of this road as the two wheelers often skid there and people get injured.
He said in case the authorities fail to construct this portion of road immediately the people of respective villages will be forced to come to streets and launch agitation.
He said the Government is claiming that thousands of crore of rupees have been earmarked for the construction of roads and building of infrastructure in the State but where this money goes as this road which is the life line of the area has not been constructed in last three years.
