Prof Charak re-elected as JUTA president

JAMMU, Oct 10: Prof Kuldeep Singh Charak of Mathematic Department has been re-elected as president of Jammu University Teachers Association (JUTA), elections of which were held today.

Sandeep Singh Sandy of the Department of Life-Long Learning has been elected for the post of general secretary while Vikram Sahi of Central Library was elected as joint secretary and Megna Dhar of Library Science as treasurer.
Smridhi Arora of Home Sciences Department had already been declared elected un-opposed for the post of vice-president.
In a triangular contest for the post of president, Prof Charak secured 143 votes and defeated his nearest rival Prof Arvind Jasrotia of the Law Department with a margin of 45 votes. Prof R K Ganjoo of Geology Department was polled only five votes.
For the post of general secretary, there was a direct contest between Sandeep Singh Sandy and Vivek Sharma of Kathua Campus. Sandy secured 128 votes and defeated Vivek Sharma, who was polled 119 votes.
The post of joint secretary also witnessed a direct contest in which Vikram Sahi secured 153 votes and defeated Subash Sharma of Bhaderwah Campus with a huge margin of 61 votes.
For the post of treasurer, there was a triangular contest, in which Megna Dhar secured 92 votes and was declared winner. The other two contestants; Bharti Prabhakar of the Department of Life-Line Learning and Satya Priya of Sanskrit Department were polled 82 and 72 votes, respectively.
There were total 272 valid votes for the JUTA elections and more than 244 members exercised their right.
