Chamber, trade, tourist bodies welcome Minister’s statement on Tawi lake

JAMMU, Oct 11: Various Jammu based organizations have welcomed the statement of Minister of PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sham Lal Choudhary that the artificial lake project on river Tawi will be completed within four months.
In a statement issued here, today by Rakesh Gupta, president, Chamber of Commerce and Industries Jammu, while welcoming the statement he has expressed his full faith in the assurance given by the concerned Minister. He expressed the hope that the concerned agency responsible for the construction of the project will seek consultations from the premier institutions like IIT to solve the problem and hurdles if any and make sure that the dream project which will attract thousands of tourists to Jammu city will become a reality soon.
Meanwhile in a joint statement issued by Chairman Jammu Parayat Vikas Mandal, Inderjeet Khajuria, president All Jammu Hotel and Lodges Association, Pawan Gupta, president Hotel Restaurnat Association, Bazaar Khatikan, Ashiq Hussian, president Hotel, Bar and Restaurant Association, Kuldeep Wahi, Chairman Jammu Development Council, Kamal Gupta, president Raghunath Bazar Shopkeepers Association, Surinder Mahajan and president Taxi Operators Association, Anchal Singh have also welcomed the statement of Minister of PHE, Irrigation and FC in which he has straightway said that Jammu’s prestigious project of artificial lake on river Tawi would be completed within time period of four months and there is no question of shelving it as Government has no such plan.
While lauding the Minister’s statement Inderjit Khajuria said that the Minister has himself admitted the truth that the project is very much technically viable and beyond any questioning so it will be unwise to question on its technicalities or abandon it. Pawan Gupta alleged that due to the lack of coordination between, various departments the project was delayed.
He said UEED has still to complete the construction work on 17 diversion channels to divert the filth and dirty water of side nallahs and municipality waste from the clean lake water which is hoped to be completed early otherwise the project shall remain incomplete in case the diversion channels are not constructed early.
