Educational institutions celebrate International Girl Child Day

JAMMU, Oct 11: Various educational institutions celebrated International Girl Child Day with zeal and enthusiasm.
A symposium on the occasion of International Girl Child Day was organized in the Government MAM College, Jammu. The programme was organized by the Prof Bhanu Priya, Incharge of the College “Girl Child Welfare Committee”. The programme started with the lighting of the traditional lamp by the Principal Dr Ajeet Angral. Several students participated in the program where they expressed their views over the issues related to the girl child. A formal vote of thanks was presented by Prof Vijeeta Anand. Prof Twinkle Suri, Prof Banpreet Kour, Prof Richa Gupta, Prof Meena Gupta, Kousar Akhtar and Inderjeet Kour were also present.
Minerva Public School celebrated International Girl Child Day with great pump and show. The whole function was divided into three phases, senior wing (classes 6th to 10th), primary wing (classes 1st to 5th) and pre-primary wing. An inter house symposium competition was organized for the senior wing on the topic “Save Girl Save Society”. Prizes and certificates were given to the winners. The function was chaired by Principal Sheetal Sharma. Inter class rhymes competition was also organized for primary wing students. Students of pre-Primary wing made posters highlighting the importance of saving girl child.
The students, staff, parents and the management of Doon International School celebrated International Girl Child Day in collaboration with Wave Mall. The school presented an array of performances to promote girl empowerment and also to spread the idea that investing in girls is a moral imperative and a matter of basic justice and equality. The chief guest was Nisha Nathyal, SSP Traffic Jammu. Danish Mishra, a prominent activist was the guest of honour and Ashwani Sharma, was the Media Partner for the noble cause. The programme commenced with an endearing performance by the kindergarten students followed by a group song by the senior students to depict the significance of the girl child. An enthralling dance performance was also presented by senior students portraying the importance of the girl child’s dreams, aspirations and ambitions. The highlight of the programme was a special performance by underprivileged and education deprived girls of Chowadhi village. A message to save the girl child was given to the people present at the Wave Mall by distributing ‘Proud to be a Girl’ badges and interacting with them on the issue. The initiator of this noble cause and the guiding force for the successful event were the Chairman GN Tantray, Principal Vikesh Kaur, Vice Principal, Mamta Chopra and Chief Coordinator Sarita Kaul. The event was coordinated by the CCA Coordinator Rachana Khanna and Academic Coordinator Megha Kohli.
