UDHAMPUR, Oct 15: J&K State Sports Council again discriminated with Jammu region in releasing funds under “Khelo India Scheme”.
This was stated by Senior Vice President, District Table Tennis Association Udhampur while interacting with media persons, here today.
According to RTI reply, J&K Sports Council allocated around Rs 1.60 crore to various sports associations in Kashmir valley and only 14 lakhs in Jammu region under “Khelo India Scheme” during 2016-17, which is grave injustice with the players of the Jammu Province.
“There are various under construction sports projects in Jammu region, but no steps have been taken for their early completion, which have shattered the dreams of the players to display their talent at national and international levels”, he added.
He stated that around 5 years back, the foundation stone of the Udhampur Indoor Complex was laid, but till today it has not been thrown open for the players to practice their games, the reason best known to the officers sitting at the helm of the affairs.
He held MLA Udhampur responsible behind delay in the opening of the Udhampur Sports Complex.
Kumar Tarun appealed to the Chief Minister to intervene into the matter and direct the J&K State Sports Council to shun favouritism, otherwise the players of Jammu region including Udhampur District will took to streets and for any untoward incident, Sports Council and the Government will be responsible.
Among others present were Ankit Sharma, Joint Secretary, Sunny Sharma, Executive Member and Balvinder Singh.
