Shreya brings laurels to J&K, wins Gold in National Fencing C’ship

JAMMU, Oct 16: A class 8th student of Presentation Convent Jammu Shreya Gupta brought laurels to the State by winning Gold medal in Sabre individual event during the ongoing National Sub-Junior and Cadet (U-17) Fencing Championship at Gwalior.
Shreya won the final by defeating fencer from Kerala comprehensively by 15-4 whereas in semifinal she won the game by 15-10. She is the first youngest female fencer from J&K to achieve this feat.
With her gold medal performance, Shreya has qualified to play in upcoming Common Wealth Championship.
Shreya was also instrumental in J&K team winning bronze medal in Sabre team event of under-17 Cadet category.
Shreya has been winning medals at national and State levels for the past 4 years. Last year also she won two gold medals for the State in sub junior category of the Sabre event.
Parents of Shreya Gupta namely Sanjay Gupta and Rashmi Mahajan contributed her success mainly due to hard work and tireless efforts of Coach Shotu Lal Sharma and Rashid Ahmed, an international fencer.
