In one of the rare incidents, a militant was killed by the sons of a People’s Democratic Party worker and former Sarpanch after militants gunned their father in Shopian district of South Kashmir.
Sources said that at least three Hizbul Mujahideen militants barged into the house of Mohammad Ramzan Sheikh, a PDP worker and former Sarpanch of village Huomhuna in Imam Sahib area of Shopian district of South Kashmir tonight.
As the militants called out PDP worker, his sons accompanied him but militants shot Sheikh wounding him critically. Sons of the PDP worker snatched rifle from one of the militants in scuffle and fired from it killing a militant of Hizbul Mujahideen, Shoukat Ahmad Kumar of Trenz Shopian. Sheikh was rushed to hospital where he succumbed.
Senior police and Army officials reached the spot and massive searches have been launched against the other two militants, who managed to escape from the scene.
