JAMMU, Nov 9: Promising middle-order batsman Parvez Rasool salvaged a lone battle by scoring a classy and crafty unbeaten 90 runs to help Jammu and Kashmir reach 196 for seven against Goa on the opening day of the Ranji Trophy Group C match at Porvorim in Goa today.
According to the reports reaching here, coming into bat after the fall of number 3 batsman Arshad Bhat with the score reading 36-2, the gutsy and gritty batsman Rasool played patiently and anchored the innings with his 90 runs which came off 205 balls with 10 crispy hits to the fence. He struck all the shots with fluid grace and pure brilliance and held his nerves against the quality bowlers like Shadab Jakati and S Bandekar.
Earlier, opener Ian Dev Singh scored 36 runs in 148 balls with four boundaries but once he was gone it was left to talented Rasool to anchor the innings after J&K won the toss and elected to bat first.
However, apart from Rasool and Ian Dev, none of the other batsmen could stay longer as J&K kept losing wickets at regular intervals at District Institute of Education and Training Ground in Porvorim, Goa. Adil (10), Arshad Bhat (17), Dhruv Mahajan (0) and Hardeep Singh (4) fell cheaply.
Sher Yadav and SS Bandekar were the best bowlers for Goa as they snapped two wickets each, while SS Dhuri, SB Jakati and AS Desai took one each.
Brief Score: J&K 196-7 in 91 overs (Parvez Rasool 90 not out, Ian Dev 36; S B Yadav 2/23, SS Bandekar 2/48).
