VIJAYPUR Oct 22: Gurha Slathia Cricket Club defeated Vee Pee Eleven in the keenly contested Samba Cricket League Tournament here today.
Vee Pee Eleven won the toss and elected to bat but finished at 100 runs in 13 overs. Chasing the target Gurah Slathi scored the winning runs in 19 overs.
Pawan Singh was declared as the man of the match while Lucky Manhas bagged the man of series title.
In all 32 teams participated in the nearly one month long tournament which evoked keen interest among the cricket lovers and attracted thousands of people to watch each match.
Congratulating the winners and runner up for their magnificent performance, former Minister and National Conference Sr State Vice President, Surjeet Singh Slathia described the tournament as a landmark step towards promoting cricket by providing logistic support and a huge platform to budding cricketers. He had special appreciation for the winners and said every player put in their best in the finals.
Mr Slathia also lauded the youngsters for participating in the tournament in a big way and hoped that this will inspire young players towards the game that offers lot of opportunities. He said the state has no dearth of talent but there is greater need to provide them best available coaching so that they shine at national and international levels.
The former minister, who was the chief guest at the concluding function of the tournament, presented trophies and awards to winners, runners up and all those who achieved distinction in various disciplines of the match.
He also felicitated the Organising Committee members of the Samba Cricket League Tournament, which included Sudershan Singh, Makhnu Slathia, Sokesh Slathia, Jimmy Slathia, Shekhar Slathia, Sandeep Singh Slathia, Rakesh Singh, Karnail Singh, Nishant Singh and Viky Slathia.
