JAMMU, Oct 22: National Conference Provincial President Devender Singh Rana today described Taj Mahal as India’s pride, saying the heritage monument is not only one of the seven wonders of the world but stands tall as shining symbol of the nation’s diversity.
Rana said that those generating passions on historical monuments including Taj Mahal are anti-national.
“The BJP’s blistering attack on the 17th century architectural marvel at some level and subsequent defensive posturing at the other level is deceptive, as its leaders are testing waters in order to make historic monuments as their poll plank in the upcoming Assembly polls in Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka besides one of the core issues in 2019 general elections”, Rana said while addressing people at various places in Nagrota Assembly Constituency during his day-long visit.
He said the comment of a controversial MLA from Uttar Pradesh cannot be brushed under the carpet and should not be under-estimated as it appears to be a well planned strategy to exploit similar other issues for dividing Indian society on communal lines. In fact, he said, this is a warning signal about events to unfold with elections coming nearer.
He said such utterances were detrimental to the unity of the country and could have serious ramifications in sensitive states like Jammu and Kashmir, which is passing through a difficult phase.
The Provincial President, however, exuded confidence in the political sagacity of people who have not allowed passions to gain momentum and thrown away the Governments that showed anarchic signs in the past. He said secularism is ingrained in the ethos and polity of India and no attempt of flirtation with this time tested characteristic will succeed before unflinching commitment of people in inclusiveness.
The MLA Nagrota assailed the BJP for raking up one after another contentious issue to divert attention from its political immaturity and misadventure. He said the nation has got a huge dent in every sphere due to wrong policies of the BJP.. “In Jammu and Kashmir, BJP’s partnership with its creation PDP has created havoc with development being pushed to backburner and governance at its lowest ebb”, he said, adding that the opportunistic alliance will indulge in rhetoric and generating passions.
Rana said the BJP and the PDP were reading writing on the wall and it is only a matter of time when the people of Jammu and Kashmir will show them the door. “The BJP is undergoing the descending phase across the country and the day is not far when Jammu and Kashmir will prove its waterloo”, he added.
Earlier, the MLA visited various areas where macadamization work started and took stock of several ongoing works. These include 600 meter at Lamberdar Mohalla in Khanpur in Nagrota Assembly Constituency involving a cost of Rs 6.25 lakhs. He also laid foundation stone of Panchayat Ghar in Nadore Panchayat and Passenger Shed at Main Bazar, Nagrota
Rana also addressed Mahasha Biradari, listened to their problems and assured that these will be taken up at appropriate level for earnest redressal.
