JAMMU, Oct 22: One day State level “Gurjar Maha Panchayat’’, first of its kind, was organized by Gurjar Desh Charitable Trust, here today.
The “Maha Panchayat” was attended by Sarpanches, Panches, social activists and prominent Gurjar leaders from all over the State. The function was presided over by Ch Abdul Hamid, newly elected Chairman of Trust while Masud Choudhary, former Vice Chancellor, BGSB University, Rajouri and Patron-in-Chief of the Trust, was the chief guest on the occasion. Ch Gulzar Ahmed Khatana from Rajouri was the guest of honour.
The participants gave a clarion call to the community to launch a sustained struggle for their long overdue rightful, constitutional, economic, educational and cultural rights. While discussing the problems of the community, the Panchayat unanimously expressed concern over the present scenario in the country in general and in the State in particular, and resolved that the community shall continue to strive and contribute in the maintenance of communal harmony and national integration.

Those who spoke in the Panchayat, included Shah Mohd. Choudhary ( Advocate), Arshad Ali Choudhary, Master Hashim Ali, Dr Shoukat Choudhary (MD), Dr Manzoor Choudhary (BMO), Col Rashid Choudhary, Ch Mohd. Lateef from Samba, Akhtar Hussain, Master Mushtaq Khatana, Basharat Hussain, Sardar Khan( Retd SP) and others.
The speakers strongly condemned the State Government for evicting the Gurjars from the land which they have occupied during Maharajas regime and have been residing therein with their families since long. The Panchayat also expressed its serious concern over the incidents of violence during the migration of Tribals from Jammu plains to Himalayan pastures. The Panchayat called upon all political parties including ruling coalition to evolve a consensus for ending unprecedented violence and to ensure their safety and security.
A vision document depicting the future course of action of the Trust was also released on this occasion , which reiterated Trust’s commitment for upliftment and empowering the down-trodden Gurjar community of the State . The Trust sought cooperation for the community in fulfilling long cherished dreams.

In the Panchayat five resolutions highlighting the various problems confronted by the community and future plan of Trust were presented and the same were approved and adopted by the Panchayat unanimously.
