KISHTWAR, Oct 23: Taking strong note of sluggish progress and poor performance under MGNREGA in the district, the Deputy Commissioner (DC), Angrez Singh Rana reprimanded the senior level officers including Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD) Kishtwar and several Block Development Officers (BDOs) for their failure to perform the functions of their position appropriately.
At the first instance, the Deputy Commissioner has ordered to withhold the salaries of 8 Block Development Officers (BDOs) of blocks including Palmar, Bonjwah, Mugal Maidan, Kishtwar, Inderwal, Trigam, Drabshalla, Nagseni. He further warned that their non performance justifies the disciplinary action that could lead to recommending their names to Government for consideration under dead wood.
This came after the performance of Rural Development Department (RDD) was reviewed in respect of the first quarter of current financial year, during which it was examined that some of the officers, till date, have not been able to take up 50 per cent of the works for execution as per the approved MGNREGA plan.
Deputy Commissioner has fixed the 20 days time limit for the non performing officers to improve speed, consistency, and dependability in order to show results. It was categorically made clear if they failed to demonstrate immediate progress, strictest possible action will be taken in accordance with the service rules.
Noting that a major change in the work culture of RDD is needed for development, concerned officers were directed to take stock of their sections periodically and take errant officials to task. Deputy Commissioner also warned them of tough action if they were found to be lackadaisical in their approach and stressed that further diligence in carrying out responsibilities is required by officers for the future.
Later, the Deputy Commissioner while briefing the media, in a statement said, various steps are being taken to improve the performance of officers by making them accountable to ensure delivery in public interest.
