JAMMU, Oct 31: Model Academy, the prestigious school of MIER in collaboration with CBSE organized a two-day workshop on “Capacity Building for Classroom Management”.
Teachers, Principals and Coordinators from 38 CBSE schools of Jammu and adjoining districts attended the workshop. Trilok Singh Bist, Principal, Jodhamal Public School and Monika Sethi, Principal, British International School, were the resource persons for the workshop.
Other dignitaries present on the occasion were Dr Adit Gupta, Director, MIER, Rupa Gupta, Management Representative, Promod Kumar Srivastava, Principal, Model Academy, Usha Gadoo, Vice- Principal, Manju Vali, Convener, Co-Curricular Committee and Manjari Sehgal and Jasleen Mohial (Managers, Academics).
While addressing the gathering, Dr Adit Gupta said that one of the key components for successfully managing classrooms is command of the teacher over the subject knowledge. He also said that teachers need to keep abreast with the changing trends in education.
Principal, Model Academy, while welcoming the participants and the resource persons, said that such workshops are instrumental in enhancing the academic, social and emotional skills of teachers and educators. He emphasized the importance of “Knowing Your Children” in order to implement effective classroom management strategies
Monika Sethi’s session highlighted the managerial skills and techniques which will help teachers to establish classroom order and discipline. She also spoke about strategies that help in managing large classrooms.
Trilok Singh Bist, in his interaction with the teachers, exhorted them to develop a personal plan of action for effective classroom management. He laid stress on giving adequate space to the child to grow and learn. He also reflected upon the components of classroom management namely content, conduct and covenant management.
During the workshop the teachers were involved in various activities, discussions, role plays and they also did a self assessment of their teaching and classroom management styles.
