JAMMU, Nov 1: Ten days short training course on “Advances in climate resilient soil management for sustainable hill agriculture” began here today at SKUAST -Jammu under the aegis of Agricultural Education, ICAR.
The chief guest of the inaugural function was Prof P K Sharma Vice Chancellor SKUAST- Jammu whereas the guest of honour was Dr J P Sharma Director Research & Course Convener.
The programme was also attended by Dr T S A Ganai, Director Education, Dr Deepak Kher, and Director Planning Dr D P Abrol Dean of FoA, Dr Zama, Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences, Dr Varinder Kaul, Controller Examination, statuary officer, HoD’S and Dr Vikas Sharma, president Teaching Association of the University.
During the inaugural session, Prof P K Sharma delivered lecture on climate change and its effects on natural resources. He emphasized to have a close coordination between the scientist and stake holders. He stressed that potential impact of climate change on the worlds agricultural and natural resources are a subject of growing concern. He emphasized that climate has always been variable, but today there is a growing concern over climate change issues, perhaps because the magnitude of the change seems to be unprecedented.
Prof Sharma told the gathering that Carbon Dioxide (CO2) molecules are never found at concentrations higher than a few hundred Parts Per Million (PPM). He suggested various climate smart agricultural practices to conserve soil and moisture for better yield.
Dr J P Sharma Director Research & Convener of the training programme, presented the detailed overview of the training and lecture on Organic Agriculture and its role in mitigating climate change.
The training programme is being attended by the twenty five scientists from across the country. At the outset, Dr P K. Rai, Course Director presented a formal welcome address. The proceeding was conducted by Dr Vivak M Arya, Course Director and vote of thanks was presented by Dr Vikas Sharma, Course Director.
