RAMBAN, Nov 17: People from Magarkote and Ramsu areas of the district are up in arms against the Power Development Department (PDD) for imposing unscheduled power cuts.
Due to power cuts, the water supply in many areas also remained affected, which added vows among the people especially women folk, who came on roads and held protest.
Amid slogans, large numbers of people held protest at Magarkote and Ramsu against PDD by blocking the vehicular movement on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
The protesters also had a brief confrontation with policemen when the forces tried to end the demonstration.
Raising slogans against PDD, the angry residents did not allow any vehicle to ply on the highway for around two hours.
The protesting people alleged that on the one hand, the department is collecting tariff from them and on the other hand it is imposing long duration power cuts, which can’t be tolerated anymore particularly during the prevailing chilly weather conditions.
They stated that the worst victims of unscheduled power cuts are the children, who are appearing in the ongoing exams of their respective classes.
Due to power cuts the water supply is also getting affected thereby increases the woes of the people.
On getting information, SDM Ramsu Vakir Giri, Naib Tehsildar Ukhral Niyaz Ahmed along with cops from Police Station Ramsu rushed to the protesting spots and assured the people that their power supply issue would be addressed on priority basis.
On the assurance, the protesters dispersed and vehicular movement was restored on the national highway.
